DFP Document Flow Processor

Recognize documents. Simplify processing. Retain control.

In many organizations, filing, naming, checking and forwarding invoices, quotations, order confirmations, delivery notes and correspondence consumes unnecessary time. DFP is being developed to process these document flows more intelligently and reliably, with fewer manual steps.

From document to useful information

What document has arrived, what information does it contain, and what should happen next? DFP can analyse digitally generated PDFs, compare them with configured recognition profiles and extract relevant information.

Processing rules can be applied based on recognition results, linking document recognition to automated handling: less repetitive work, fewer opportunities for errors and better oversight.

From intake to processing

  1. Receive

    Documents from existing workflows.

The current development version can automatically pick up and analyse digitally generated PDFs from a monitored input folder.

  2. Recognize

    Determine the document type.

DFP compares documents with configured recognition profiles. Through a browser interface, users can identify relevant regions and tailor profiles to their documents.

  3. Extract

    Turn documents into useful information.

When recognition is sufficiently reliable, DFP can extract relevant information from the PDF for further processing.

  4. Decide

    Processing according to configured rules.

Recognition results and processing rules determine the next step. Documents that cannot be recognized with sufficient confidence can be set aside for review.

  5. Execute

    Fewer repetitive tasks.

DFP can execute configured processing rules. Applying digital letterhead has also been implemented and tested in practice. Additional storage destinations and delivery channels remain under development.

Recognition tailored to your documents

Documents serving the same purpose can vary considerably in layout and terminology. DFP therefore uses recognition profiles tailored to particular document types.

A browser interface lets users inspect documents and mark relevant areas, retaining control over what the software recognizes and how documents are handled.

Automation without losing control

DFP is intended to reduce repetitive work, not eliminate human oversight. Profiles and rules adapt processing to an organization's workflow.

When a document is not recognized with sufficient confidence, it can be set aside for review. An unknown document need not be treated as a known one.

Built on years of practical experience

DFP is the next generation of work that began with Print Flow Processor (PFP). PFP emerged from the need to extend existing business applications without modifying those applications themselves.

Starting with print-job processing, including fax delivery, PFP grew into solutions for digital letterhead, document recognition, data exchange and automated document handling. These solved practical problems in various organizations, from administrative workflows to specialized reporting and warehouse processes.

DFP is not simply a copy of PFP. It is being redeveloped using modern software techniques and an extensible architecture, building on proven principles and experience.

A platform designed to grow

The first development phase focuses on reliable recognition and processing of digitally generated PDF documents.

Further development targets virtual printers, processing and splitting compound print jobs, flexible file naming and additional delivery methods. Scan support, further integrations and intelligent assistance for configuring recognition are also potential future capabilities.

These are development directions, not promises of currently available functionality. DFP does not require AI to perform its core functions.

Who can benefit from DFP?

Organizations that process documents regularly and encounter limitations in their existing software—for example administrative document flows, repetitive PDF operations or specialized processes that standard software cannot adequately support.

Development status and availability

DFP is actively being developed. The development version includes working PDF recognition, data extraction, browser-based profile management and rule-based document processing. Key components have undergone technical and functional testing.

DFP is not yet a generally available, fully developed off-the-shelf product. Further work focuses on stronger recognition, more input and output options and broader practical applications.
